Nate in 1996 Gilbert style

This is a tribute picture I did to when one of my favorite newspaper comic strips, "Buckles" by David Gilbert ([link]), first debuted 15 years ago, on March 25, 1996. I always based my current art style on Buckles, and here we have one of my own characters, Nate (who was heavily based on myself), as he was drawn just like how Buckles started out. So this drawing is a homage to the old David Gilbert style from the very early strips of said comic from 1996, such as the first one: [link] (NOTE: I know this character doesn't appear in the comics, but I have to use David Gilbert's old style from 1996 to pay homage to the early strips.)

When Buckles first started out, the art had a very lush and sleeker appearance with thicker lines and simpler character designs, but as years pass, it now has a very rough and crisp look, while still looking pretty fluid in appearance.

I've been a fan of this comic since I read it when I was nine years old (but I really haven't read it in awhile), and then a few years later I was inspired to base my drawing style on the strip.

I actually drew this picture a year ago, but later on I decided to edit it, and now I'm releasing it in honor of the comic's 15th anniversary. So I hope you like this picture, and I hope you like the comic as long as you read it.
